The US House of Representatives attempted to vote on a Bill that would CRIMINALIZE any type of ‘boycott’ of Israel by US companies. The term ‘boycott’ is intentionally vague, and could theoretically be actions as simple as anything antithetical to Israeli agenda or goals.
This Bill would directly violate The First Amendment, which is absolute in nature. Speech, Petition, Assembly, Protest, and Religion are all protected, even if they are subjectively ‘hateful’ or ‘offensive’.
The penalties of ‘The Anti-Boycott Act’ are a fine up to $1M and up to 20 years in prison. Strictly stated — American Citizens cannot ‘boycott’ Israel or Israel’s Settlements.
Viewing the last Congressional Election Cycle, over 75% of Members of Congress had their Campaigns funded by The American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Objectively, Members of Congress will push an Interest’s Agenda if they [The Interest] bolstered a candidate for Office. Without that Interest’s support, a Congressman may not be in their current position.
